Gear Up w/ EVGA: "Dark Dragonblade" Build by Kazuma16

The "Gear Up with EVGA" case modding program is in full effect with our sponsored builds well under way.  Awesome and unique updates from our already featured builds and now we are back to share another featured case modder!

From Canada, I'd like to introduce to you, Jonathan Garlit also known as Kazuma16 on the EVGA Forums.  Selected as our "Gear up with EVGA" case mod/build for the month of February 2016, his build is titled "Dark Dragonblade"

Genji, a character from the game "Overwatch". In the game, Genji has a ability called "Dragon Blade" which is his ultimate ability. I played the game a few times and got inspired to make a project based on Genji after seeing his armor. - Jonathan

Jonathan has been working on his case mod for a few months now.  Having him share his concept designs, changes and his final design project via his Build log on the EVGA Forums is very exciting.  Its amazing to see what someone can think of and actually put into effect,  it takes some awesome skill and ability.

To fully appreciate Jonathan's design and all the hard work he's put into his project, you definitely have to check out the "Dark Dragonblade" build log  Below are just a few of the images from the build log where you can see the attention to detail and precision that has gone into the "Dark Dragonblade" build.

I asked Jonathan for some background info on what inspired him and how he got starting into case modding.

Around mid 2013, I built my first ever PC, a mini itx system. Got it up and running, I put in a few fans with LED's, but whenever I was looking at it, it just felt that something was still missing. I googled "Green PC Case" and saw a very interesting, custom, mini ITX case called "Nvidia Ion Cube" by Cheapskate and Bill Owen. After seeing that, I got inspired to try out and do a scratch build. And the rest was history.- Jonathan

Looking at the updates on his build log, I asked Jonathan what type of tools and machines he used to do all his work...

My main arsenal of tools for the "Dark DragonBlade" Project consists of a Jigsaw,  a set of hand files and needle files, a Dremel Motosaw,  a Hand drill,  Sand Paper of varying grits (a LOT of them), and some Acrylic Polish - Jonathan

The custom acrylic work, with the lettering and icons are done to perfection.  Being able to do this type of work by hand requires lots of skill.  This is quality work you would see from precise machinery.  Jonathan does have a CNC machine as well,  although its not always very reliable....

I partially used my CNC (Shapeoko 3) for cutting out a few small details but I immediately went back to my main tools because the CNC needs more tweaking and calibration for it since most of the times, it will stop while in the middle of a job which will lead me back to using my trusty jigsaw and hand file to finish the job.  And most of all...A LOT OF PATIENCE!

As with each of our "Gear Up with EVGA" sponsored builds, we sent Jonathan out some awesome EVGA hardware.  Jonathan graciously took some amazing photos and shared them with everyone via his build log:

Jonathan has been hard at work with small details and his custom work is coming along very nicely.  The images below are just a few of our favorites that stood out which you can see in detail in the "Dark Dragonblade" build log.  Check out the awesome use of the EVGA logo!!!

How about those custom made reservoir brackets!!  Again, this is just a small bit of the full build log which we wanted to share with everyone.  Definitely head on over to the EVGA Forums > Mods Rigs section and check out the "Dark DragonBlade" build log.  Make sure to leave some words of encouragement and let Jonathan know how awesome his build is coming along!!!
