Kerbal Space Program is a game that I hold near and dear to my heart. If you have not heard of this game, it won the PC Gamer: Best Simulation Award in 2015. It is also one of the few early access games that actually made it out of its alpha/beta phases (shots fired). In KSP you manage your own space program from top to bottom. You control the funding, the research, rocket building and flight controls. This game may be rough in the beginning but once you finally land on your destination, the feeling is amazing.
It took me about 7-8 hours to land on the mun (Kerbal for moon) for the first time. This process was full of frustration and anger, I must have witnessed 43 explosions and 56 tiny green deaths but when the struts on my little pod successfully touched down on the mun's surface, the euphoria was better than my graduation. If you ever wondered what it would be like to be an astronaut, this is as close as it will get. This game has an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating by over 32,000 players and the masses don't lie!
In KSP not only will you be able to pilot the spacecraft of your dreams, you will also get a general understand of gravity and planetary orbit. I know we hate to learn when we play games but KSP makes it a lot of fun. In recent light of the No Man's Sky release, which is an open world exploration game, KSP will dig deep into the engineering behind space travel and allow you to experience the trials of launch testing.
The game has a $39.99 price tag (Which is well worth it!) but you can try the game with the free demo now on Steam. If there is something I think every gamer should try at least once, it would be to attempt to land on the mun in this game. Don't worry if you gruesomely explode your first 50 rockets, it's all part of the game!
